Water Quality in Australia

What's Actually in Your Water?

Australian town water is safe to drink under current standards — but "safe" doesn't mean "clean". Treated municipal water commonly contains residuals that affect taste, odour, and long-term household infrastructure.

Chlorine and chloramines used in water treatment are effective disinfectants — but they react with organic matter in pipes to form trihalomethanes (THMs). Filtration at the mains removes these byproducts before they reach your taps, appliances, and skin.

🚿
Skin & Hair

Chlorinated water strips natural skin oils and can worsen conditions like eczema and dry scalp. Filtered water is noticeably softer in the shower.

Taste & Smell

Chlorine taste and "off" odours in tap water affect coffee, cooking water, and drinking. Filtered water is clean and neutral — the way water should taste.

🔧
Appliance Lifespan

Sediment and scale from unfiltered water accumulate in hot water systems, dishwashers, and washing machines — accelerating wear and reducing efficiency.

How the System Works

Five Stages of Whole-Home Filtration

The Aqua-Plus system is installed at your water mains — every tap, shower, appliance, and hose in the home receives filtered water. No separate under-sink units needed.

Stage 01
🪨
Sediment Pre-Filter
Removes sand, rust, silt & large particulates down to 5µm
Stage 02
🪵
Activated Carbon Block
Absorbs chlorine, chloramines, VOCs & taste / odour compounds
Stage 03
⚗️
KDF Media
Reduces heavy metals — lead, mercury, arsenic & hydrogen sulfide
Stage 04
🔬
Ultrafine Membrane
Filters to 0.1µm — removes cysts, bacteria & micro-plastics
Stage 05
Scale Inhibitor
Conditions minerals to prevent scale on hot water systems & pipes

Whole-home vs. point-of-use: Under-sink filters only treat water at one tap. The Aqua-Plus system treats all water at entry — protecting your plumbing, appliances, hot water system, showers, and laundry simultaneously. One installation. Zero compromises.

Professional Installation

Installed in a Day. No Mess. No Disruption.

All Electric Homes installs Aqua-Plus systems using licensed plumbers — fully compliant with Australian plumbing standards. Here's what to expect on installation day.

01

Pre-Installation Site Assessment

Your installer surveys the mains inlet, available space for the filter housing, and your existing plumbing configuration. Takes 15–20 minutes. We confirm the best install location and identify any preparatory work required.

02

Mains Isolation & Bypass Fitting

Water is temporarily isolated while we install the filter housing inline with your mains. A bypass valve is fitted — allowing future filter changes without water interruption. Typical isolation time is under 2 hours.

03

Filter Cartridge Installation & Commissioning

All five filter cartridges are installed in sequence. The system is flushed for 10 minutes to clear any installation residuals, and water quality is tested at the tap to confirm filtration is operating correctly.

04

System Orientation & Handover

We walk you through the bypass valve, filter indicator gauge, and annual service schedule. You receive a compliance certificate and filter replacement reminder service (optional). Most installs are complete within a half-day.

All-Electric Advantage

Why Water Filtration Matters More in an All-Electric Home

Heat pump hot water systems, electric appliances, and induction cooktops perform best with clean, scale-free water. Protecting your water quality protects your investment in electrification.

Heat Pump Hot Water

Heat pump systems are highly efficient — but scale from hard, unfiltered water reduces heat exchanger performance and can void warranty. The Aqua-Plus scale inhibitor stage keeps your heat pump operating at peak efficiency.

  • Prevents limescale on heating elements
  • Extends system lifespan by 3–5 years
  • Maintains manufacturer warranty compliance

Dishwasher & Laundry

Filtered water reduces detergent usage in dishwashers and washing machines, eliminates mineral spots on glassware, and prevents internal scale build-up that shortens appliance life.

  • Spot-free glassware without rinse aid
  • Softer laundry — less detergent needed
  • Protects internal heating elements

Induction & Electric Cooking

Cooking and drinking water free from chlorine taste means better flavour in everything from pasta to coffee. No chemical aftertaste in boiling water, ice, or cold-filtered water.

  • Chlorine-free cooking water
  • Better-tasting coffee and tea
  • Cleaner ice from filtered water line

Whole-Home Plumbing

Sediment and scale accumulate in pipes, pressure-reduction valves, and fixtures over years. Whole-home filtration upstream of all pipework reduces maintenance, extends tap and valve life, and keeps water pressure consistent.

  • Longer fixture and valve lifespan
  • Consistent water pressure maintained
  • Fewer plumbing call-outs over time

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between a whole-home filter and an under-sink filter?
An under-sink filter only treats water at a single tap — typically the kitchen cold water. Everything else in your home — showers, laundry, hot water system, other taps — continues to receive unfiltered water. A whole-home (point-of-entry) system is installed at the mains before water distributes to any outlet, so every tap and appliance in the home receives filtered water. This is the only method that protects hot water systems, appliances, and plumbing infrastructure from scale and sediment.
Does it reduce water pressure?
A properly sized whole-home filter at standard residential flow rates causes minimal pressure drop — typically 10–20 kPa across the filter at normal household demand. This is imperceptible in everyday use. The Aqua-Plus is rated for 60–80 L/min, which comfortably covers simultaneous use from multiple outlets in a typical Australian home. We assess your existing water pressure during the site visit and confirm suitability before installation.
How often do filters need replacing?
Aqua-Plus filter cartridges are rated for 12 months or 150,000 litres of use, whichever comes first. For most Australian households (average daily consumption around 175–200 L per person), annual replacement is the standard. The system includes a pressure-drop gauge that visually indicates when a service is due. All Electric Homes offers an optional annual service reminder and maintenance visit.
Can I replace the filters myself?
Yes. The bypass valve fitted during installation means the system can be isolated and filter cartridges swapped out without a plumber. Cartridges are standard-size housing units and require no tools beyond the filter wrench supplied. We recommend using genuine Aqua-Plus replacement cartridges to maintain filtration performance and warranty coverage. A service reminder notification can be set up through All Electric Homes at no charge.
Will the system remove fluoride?
No. The Aqua-Plus system targets sediment, chlorine, chloramines, heavy metals, volatile organic compounds, bacteria, cysts, and microplastics. It does not remove dissolved fluoride. This is by design — fluoride removal requires a separate reverse osmosis (RO) stage, which is typically only appropriate for point-of-use (drinking water) applications due to flow rate limitations. If you require fluoride reduction at the drinking tap, we can discuss adding an under-sink RO unit in conjunction with the whole-home system.
Is the installation disruptive? How long does it take?
Most residential installations are completed within a half day. Water needs to be isolated at the mains for approximately 1.5–2 hours during the pipe connection phase. Our licensed plumber manages the full process — you don't need to prepare anything beyond providing clear access to the mains water inlet. We clean up fully before leaving and leave water running and tested before handover.
Do I need council approval or a plumbing permit?
Installation of a whole-home water filter constitutes plumbing work under Australian standards and must be performed by a licensed plumber — which All Electric Homes provides. A compliance certificate is issued post-installation. In most Australian states, this type of work does not require a separate council approval. Your installer will confirm the exact permit requirements for your state or territory during the pre-installation assessment.
Is this suitable for tank water or bore water?
The Aqua-Plus is designed for treated municipal (town) water. Tank water and bore water often have significantly different contaminant profiles and may require additional treatment stages — sediment levels, biological content, pH, and mineral concentrations vary widely. If you are on tank or bore water, please contact us directly. We can arrange a water quality test and recommend an appropriate system configuration for your specific source.
